In our second COVID '21 Update, we will have a quick look at the developments we spotted throughout the week which may affect our Track Days in France on the 21st of March (Dijon) and Belgium (Mettet) on the 9th of April.
I have to admit, that especially looking at our Track Day in March in Dijon, there remains a pretty high degree of uncertainty - mainly due to two facts:
Testing upon entry and returning:
The travel restrictions currently in place in France make it almost impossible to enter the country for any of us (EU or Switzerland).
On the one hand, I do not believe that the participation in a Track Day constitutes an "important reason" to enter the country.
On the other hand, providing a negative PCR-Test upon entry of the country as well as upon reentering your home country besides facing possible quarantine is not practical at all.
Curfew and Time Constraints:
While for now many Track Days seem to be going ahead in France, the curfew makes it difficult for us and any of our drivers who mostly come from Switzerland in Germany. Only being able to stay outside until 6pm also means to significantly cut the track time, as all of us have to leave earlier than usual.
I want to be completely honest and transparent: In the end, I think that, under the current conditions, the Track Day will not go through. That is why we are currently in touch with the circuit to evaluate any possible options and will keep you updated at all times via our Newsletter!
I really wish we could have given you more positive news on this case.
During my research about what is going on in Belgium, I found some unconfirmed reports, that the travel restrictions will be prolonged until the 1st of April 2021. With our Trackday in Mettet scheduled for the 9th of April, there will not be lots of room left to manoeuvre.
As Track Days in Belgium are generally still going ahead, our Belgian Drivers do not have much to worry about (in my opinion). Looking at the exceptions that were in place for Germans during last years Track Day, I am still quite confident that we will be able to enjoy an epic day together in April!
